Sohn, Ji-young: Interacting with Light

Sohn, Ji-young was originally trained as an engineer who recently studies at the Royal Academy of Design. Her work is, thus, a combination of the initial proposal based upon conceptual drawing and experimentation, as well as the final execution based upon her prototype. Her most recent series Interacting with Light is series of her efforts to “wake” up light. Symbolically, her first work from the series refers to a light kept inside of the square box; she then squirts the surface of the box made of the soft chemical fabric; she even uses a hammer to bang the box to let light out. In the show, the series of boxes with which the audience can touch and interact will be displayed while the recording of the artist herself interacting with the boxes will be replayed.
